Goal Setting Tips -Remember the Attraction Factor - Clarify and Be Aware. What You Do Stick to YOU!

When setting goals - don't forget the The Attraction Factor – Are you A-ttracting or De-stracting? You have likely heard of the Law of Attraction. I am referring to the law in which we create our own realities - good or bad - by what we focus on. Our focus clarifies our intentions and heaven and earth seem to align to deliver what we need to succeed thats why - when goal setting, we must clarify and be aware. Maybe you first heard of it from Rhonda Byrne’s book, “The Secret” or the teachings of Ester and Jerry Hicks. You may or may not feel it works. Whether you call it Law of Attraction or chalk it up to just expecting good things to happen and thus focusing on the good so only good is what seems to jump out at you (such as when you buy a white car and then notice all kinds of white cars), it is happening.

Some people turn away and call it mumbo jumbo after becoming frustrated. Logic says that if a system or process works but doesn’t seem to work for one particular user – wouldn’t it make sense that the user may be missing something? Take computers – We know they work universally but we also know there are folks that do not know how to make computers work…until someone shows them how. And maybe the previously knew how but forgot. A gentle reminder may be all they need. “Oh, yeah, I remember now.”

Have you ever been in a retail establishment and witnessed a parent and child in the “Gimme” struggle? (Talk about attraction factor...) The child is grabbing for everything he can get his little hands on and the parent becomes harassed and frustrated after a while? Many times the parent gives up and drags the screaming darling out of the store without making any purchases. The little darling ends up with nothing?

Think about it – are we not that little darling at times? We say we wish to attract what we want but then can't make up our mind what we want! We set goals and let them slip or change them randomly. “Today I want to be a business owner selling widgets – or maybe I will try being a sports commentator – maybe I should just write - should I work with individuals or maybe concentrate on groups ?” It is as if we are saying gimme this – no that – no gimme this over here! No wonder we can’t seem to succeed. We can't seem to focus for more than a minute. We jump from one idea to another. We confuse ourselves as well as our God or the Universe trying to help us. So, we should pay attention to this goal setting tip and clarify and be aware.

Our actions scream louder than our thoughts or intentions. We want to attract certain situations - set certain goals - but our actions do not reflect those goals. For example – we want to be healthy and in great shape, but we hang out at the coffee shop drinking fat-filled mocha drinks instead of going to the gym. Or we want to be rich and successful but instead of gravitating to the places the rich and successful go, we stay away and complain with our broke un-ambitious buddies. The environment that we spend the most time in - as well as the folks we spend the most time with - tend to affect us greatly. It is best to remove ourselves from negative influences. We may not realize how much negativity rubs off onto us until we step back. Again...goal setting tip - clarify and be aware.

And, remember the saying, Birds of a Feather Flock Together? To give an extreme example… Am I the only one that felt a chill when realizing that Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath were close friends – and that Sylvia’s replacement, as well as Sylvia’s son, also committed suicide? Talk about being negatively influenced or at least de-sensitized to suicide.

So a word of advice – really clarify what you want so God or the Universe can help,. And remember that your actions are the real you and you can say or think whatever you like but beware of De-stracting …or as I like to say, “What you DO sticks to YOU.”

So I ask you...Where are you now? Where do you want to be?

It takes time to evolve into the person we want to be, even if we believe we can do it (Let alone if we are unsure – which puts us in the category where most of us fall). It takes a concerted, consistent effort to move through the steps toward our goals. Or maybe the vision is unclear – something nags at us that there is more that we want to do – but what? And if we know the What, then How do we get there? Who will respect our dreams, support our goals and work toward helping us fulfill our desires? Who will focus on our agenda instead of driving toward their own? This is the purpose of having your own coach. Your coach’s mission is to respect, support and move you forward toward the very vision that you seek. We're here to help you!
